Fiona:(Singing) I will walk through the fire. I will walk thorough the fire. I will walk through the fire. I will walk through the fire.
Me: (Pause) Fiona! You are the coolest kid ever!
Come on, my favorite song from my favorite episode of my all time favorite show? I am raising a proper geek.

Everybody remember where we parked.-Kirk Star Trek IV
So the other night Dave and I watched Star Trek 4 and boy oh boy is that movie awesomely bad. Hadn't seen it in at least 15 years and it didn't hold up at all. We had a blast.
I'm more of a Star Wars girl (btw I'm taking an unpopular stance and saying I think Return of the Jedi is way better than Empire Strikes Back. I know a lot of people don't like the Ewoks but as I was a young girl when that came out I thought kick ass teddy bears were all kinds of awesome.) but I can embrace the trekkie lifestyle on occasion. Dave is a bit of a trekkie and I think I can say with some confidence that this is the one area of pop culture in which he out geeks me.
So not being a trekkie myself and Dave being unable to answer my question I put this to you. You guys were able to come through on my Spider Man question a few weeks back so I thought...ya know.
Here's the question. Earth is all one big happy family in the future right? In fact their part of the United Federation of Planets correct? So why is the ship the U.S.S. Enterprise? U.S.S. stands for United States Ship. Shouldn't it be U.F.P.S. (United Federation of Planets Ship) or just F.S. (Federation Starship). And don't tell me it's a holdover because that's a cop out and then it would still be H.M.S.
I bet there's an answer and I'm to lazy to Google it myself.

morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like-Firefly
Alright if you're not a Browncoat or just crazy about Joss Whedon you won't get this. But if you are, you're welcome.

Babies have big heads and big eyes, and tiny little bodies with tiny little arms and legs. So did the aliens at Roswell! I rest my case.*
Ya ever notice in movies or on tv how aliens that decide to impersonate humans always choose to be super hot thin people. Now don't get me wrong if I could chose my form I too would pick super hot and thin (I mean why the heck not). However if you want to blend in with human society it might be a good idea to go with paunchy and sagging it's less conspicuous.

Some advice: Find a dictionary and look up "pathetic".-Degrassi the next generation
As I walked through the room I noticed what channel the TV was tuned to.
Me: You're watching Teen Nick?
Dave: No I just bumped the channel change button by accident.
Me: Don't lie, I know Degrassi is you favorite show.
Dave: I only like the old Degrassi the new one just isn't as good.
I love when he rolls with it.

Look at us, riding around in a limo, eating hot dogs... It's like we're the president.-Marshall, How I Met Your Mother
I like the show How I Met Your Mother. I think it's very funny but if my Dad ever started telling me a story that involved that much sex I'd run screaming from the room, dash to my computer and begin googling madly to find out if there is such a thing as ear bleach.

Also I can kill you with my brain-River Tam (Firefly)
A list of TV shows I loved but were canceled way to soon.
Firefly
Dead Like Me
Dark Shadows (the revamped one in the 90's. OMG revamped, wholly bad pun batman. Sorry 'bout that)
My So Called Life
The Tick (the animated one)
Drive
Hey look I made a Nathan Fillion sandwich full of vampires, other misc. supernatural and weirdness, and teen angst. No wonder Buffy was my favorite show ever.
*Note: When I Googled "quotes about canceled tv shows" the first thing that comes up is the IMDB page for Firefly. Cartoon network revived interest in Family Guy so Fox uncanceled it. Comedy Central brought Futurama back from the dead after years and years. Hey Sci Fi how about you bring back Firefly? Pleeeeeeese (bats eyelashes and gives pouty lip).

Language forces us to perceive the world as man presents it to us.-Julia Penelope
We don't actually have cable yet (they're coming on Thursday thank goodness) so we have to watch what we can pick up over the air. Sadly four of the ten or so channels we get are in Spanish. We were watching the news on one of the Spanish channels because they were showing live footage of the rescue of the trapped mine workers in Chile and I was doing my best to understand what they were saying using my fabulous I took Spanish in high school and live in California skills.
Me: It says En Vivo which I think means live and um that part says the rescue of the 33. The only word I understood there was Barista so I think they're talking about Starbucks now.

All television is children's television.-Richard P. Adler
Also we had to walk 25 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways.
Fiona: (as a commercial came on) Want Phineas and Ferb Mama. Want Phineas and Ferb.
Me: (Fast forwarding because we're watching the DVR) I hope you know how spoiled you are. When we were kids we had to watch what was on and there were only like ten channels and the commercials were unavoidable.
Unrelated sort of: So Fiona has been sick AGAIN! I mean really sick not sleeping, not eating, not drinking enough fluids, high fever since LAST WEDNESDAY! I called two different advice nurses on Friday they said it wasn't anything to worry about but we should check in with her Dr. on Monday. Well over the weekend she got worse. She was miserable and so were we. Dave took her to the Dr. yesterday turns out she has ear infections in both ears. I'd like to give a big ol' F**k you to the advice nurses who said I didn't need to worry. Luckily the antibiotics have made an immediate improvement she was happy and playing last night, eating dinner, and only woke up once because she needed Tylenol for her fever. We all got a solid nights rest and feel about a million times better. Any way my point is usually I pre write my posts over the weekend but last weekend I was worried and sleep deprived so I didn't really wright much so posting will be light this week.

The Dresden Files (TV Show)
I'm a fan of the books. I'd seen the show a few times before and not been impressed but that could be 'cause I was watching it in the middle of the night (insomnia) and didn't actually know what the plot was.
I recommend the books, the show still fails to impress. I think it might be alright if you haven't read the books.
If you have read the books:
It should be a VW Bug not a Jeep
Harry's to short
Murphy's to old and not blond (I don't suppose this or the above matters but still)
Murphy is so NOT a mom
Why is Harry carrying a hockey stick instead of a magic staff?
Where's Thomas? (you know how I like Vampires)
Harry can't cook
Bob isn't a ghost and shouldn't manifest
Speaking of Bob (and getting to the point of this post) the few times I watched the show I kept thinking the actor looked familiar but couldn't figure out why. I thought it might be because he resembles Tim Curry. Turns out Bob is played by Terrence Mann. You might be saying who? I on the other hand am a huge theatre nerd. Terrance Mann played The Rumtumtugger in the original cast of Cat's, Javert in Les Miserables (I can't remember if it was the Original London cast or the Broadway cast but either way), Cheuvlein in the Scarlett Pimpernell, and a whole bunch of other things including Frank N' Furter in a revival of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (I'm not the only one who noticed the resemblance to Tim Curry).
That's been bugging me for years! Such a relief.

A Great Big Hug to Costco
About three years ago we bought a big ol' TV from Costco. About 9 months ago it broke. It was under warranty and apparently this was a problem being reported on hundreds of this model TV so they fixed it. It took about a month for the guy to get the part and install it and then it took us another week to get someone to help us put the TV back up on the wall because it's to heavy for Dave & I.
Thing were going along happily until about two weeks ago Dave and I were watching the TV after Fiona went to bed when POP the same part broke. We called Costco they said we needed to contact the manufacturer. They tried to say well it's a three year old TV. We said it's a lemon and you might want to curb the attitude as there's a lot of buzz on the Internet about a class action suit. They said they'd fix it. We thought about it and did a little research.
When we bought the TV Costco had a life time return policy. Many people abused this so they had to change their policy but since that was in effect at the time we should be covered. Dave called Costco customer service they were actually very nice and said that it would be up to the manager at the Costco in question but we should be able to return the TV.
The manager at Costco let us return it. The price has come down so we got a different TV for about half what we originally paid and now have an insane store credit at Costco (we no longer have the card we used to purchase it originally).
This story is not funny or even that interesting but I mention it because you hear lots of stories of companies really screwing their customers, or stories of rude/just plain bad customer service. This was great service and I think Costco deserves a little credit. Thank you Costco for using common sense and courtesy.

Cookie Nazis
As I said in my very first post ever, "Sesame Street was way cooler when I was a kid.". Now they've gone to far. Cookie Monster will be preaching about healthy eating and singing a song about how cookies are only ok some of the time.
I don't mind if they want to teach healthy eating habits. That's a good thing but couldn't they have used a different spokes monster? Use Elmo he's already lame.
Come on people yeah it's supposed to be educational but can't some things just be fun? What's next Oscar the Neat Freak? I had another joke at Bert & Ernie's expense but then I'd be no better than the people I'm complaining about.
It's funny how much this pisses me off (I was going to say irritates me but that's not accurate). It's like they traveled back in time to my child hood and walked up to my four year old self and punched me in the gut.
Not letting Cookie Monster preach the gospel of cookies is censorship. It's cookie discrimination. It's super duper lame.
Here is the link to the article that got me started but I bet you can find others if your interested.
And here is the way I will always remember Cookie Monster.
I like to watch Sesame Street on the Spanish channels. I don't understand what they're saying so it doesn't make me mad, Plaza Sesemo is fun to say, and Big Bird has a cool punk rock hairdo.

Makes Me Feel All Special
I love Jeopardy. I could never actually be a contestant because I'm only good on a limited number of subjects, also I NEVER remember to phrase my answer in the form of a question.
I always feel so proud when I know the answers and if I know it and the contestants don't well that just makes my day. Last week there was one night where I knew the answer to final Jeopardy and two of the contestants got it wrong (it was Anubis). I'm still enjoying the glow of that one.
One time I turned it on while I was doing some chores so I wasn't really paying attention but after a while I realized I was kicking butt. I knew all the answers and the contestants were barely getting half of them. I felt so smug and was getting pretty full of myself until they came back from a commercial break and I realised it was the Junior Championship. So I guess I did learn a couple things in High School after all.

To Boldly Go....Nowhere
I would not like to live on the star ship Enterprise. Not because of all the getting attacked and possibly dying (and lets face it I look good in red) but because I think the actual living on the ship part would be really really boring.
Think about it, all they have for entertainment is that bar where no one ever seems to get a buzz and the holodeck. So alright you could got virtual hiking or whatever but what if you just want to go shopping and not for those hideous unitards they all wore (the actors must have had to work out all the time...or invest in a lot of spanks)? What if you want to adopt a puppy? The Enterprise is puppy free. Do you want to live in a puppy free universe? I don't.
How about if you had something you wanted to keep private. Ya know like if you had a foot fetish or enjoyed dressing up in your grandmas clothes (side note: I've actually seen granny tranys so I'm not making that one up), or you caught something embarrassing you don't want to go to the ships doctor about. It would be hard to keep your private life private.
Dave pointed out that it would also be hard to get crack. I suspect you have to pass random drug tests to be a crew member so I doubt there'd be a big demand for crack but he's right.
How about if someone you work with is annoying? I used to work with this woman who drove me up the wall, she was perfectly nice to me but she thought the world was going to end soon and was collecting caned food so she'd be prepared (I'm not kidding) she was also on her 5th husband and wanted to give me relationship advise. Can you imagine not only having to work with someone like that but live with them too. I wonder what the homicide statistics were for the Enterprise.

For Michelle
Stuck in my head for days
"This is the man that I plan to entangle isn't he fine?
My claim to fame was to mame and to mangle vengeance was mine".
Buffy was my all time favorite show. I miss it so very much.
