There are lots of reasons why I love Fiona but at the moment my favorite is this.
She tells me I look beautiful even when I don't really look that great. Seriously all I have to do is get dressed and brush my hair and Fiona will exclaim, "You look beautiful Mommy!" It's such an ego boost. Of coarse it may say something about my personal grooming recently but that's okay.

This shirt is dry clean only, you know what that means? It's dirty!-Mitch Headberg
My hair has reached new heights in greasiness.
There's something wrong with out hot watter heater. The pilot light keeps going out. We've re lit it three times in the last 24 hours. Dave called the landlord, I assume they will call a plumber or something.
I usually only wash my hair every third day but it was due today. Unfortunately it was as I was getting ready to shower this am that I discovered there was no hot watter (again). I boiled some watter and took a bath but I didn't want to try to wash my hair in the tub also the watter wasn't that deep (I may be slightly smelly as well as greasy).
I don't know when the watter heater will be fixed. I can't decide if I want to try to boil enough watter to wash my hair or see just how long I can go before random strangers start chasing me down like an Axe commercial.

If truth is beauty, how come no one has their hair done in a library?-Lily Tomlin
I love that thing cats and birds do where they shake their head really fast and all their fur and feathers respectively lay down all smooth. I wish I could do that, shake my head and instantly be perfectly coiffed. That would be cool.

When red headed people are above a certain social grade their hair is auburn.-Mark Twain
The problem with bangs, at least the straight across kind I have at the moment...
Side story: Does any one else think it's weird that when I went to my parents house a couple weeks ago to go through more random stuff from my grandparents house (Hello packages of instant flan that expired in the late 1980's) neither of my parents noticed I suddenly have bangs? My Mom noticed my hair is currently red (well strawberry) which I've been in the habit of doing every year or so since I was seventeen but not that I have straight across actual bangs for the first time in just shy of twenty five years. Not even when we were discussing hair styles as I was cutting her hair because she didn't want to pay $12 to get it trimmed.
The problem with bangs is it's really hard to put on moisturizer or the really spiffy anti wrinkle serum I use without getting it in my hair.

Gentlemen prefer blondes... but gentlemen marry brunettes.-Anita Loos*
Those of you who are mothers will already know this but when you're pregnant you don't loose any hair. Now my hair has always been really thick so I didn't really notice the difference when I was pregnant but when Fiona was three or four months old all that extra hair started falling out. Now I'm not sure how it is for other women but like I said my hair is thick so in my case it was coming out in big huge fist fulls of hair. It was alarming at first but after a few days I got used to it. Unfortunately I got so used to it that it didn't occur to me to warn the poor shampoo girl when I went to get my hair cut. She thought she'd done something wrong and freaked out. She was trying to hide her panic so it took me a few minutes to notice. When I figured out what was wrong and explained to her that it was nothing to worry about she started crying in relief. I'm pretty sure there's a lesson here but "if you've got giant gobs of hair falling off your scalp warn anyone who might touch your head" seems unnecessarily specific.

Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.-Marc Brown
The first time I ever donated blood (yeah I actually did it again after this)
At my high school if you were over 16 and had parents permission you could get out of class to donate blood on blood drive days. Pretty much only the kids who actually had debilitating phobias about blood or needles didn't donate because "DUDE YOU GET OUT OF CLASS!"
So during the first blood drive of my senior year I reported promptly for my appointment during second period. They set me up on a cot, got the line running and went to work on another student. Normally it takes about 15 minutes or so to fill the bag but when the phlebotomist (sp?) came back just a couple minutes later to check if things were flowing properly they discovered the bag was full. I've never discovered what exactly went wrong but I did discover the hard way that if I loose that much blood that quickly I pass out. Luckily someone caught me and put me back on the cot.
After an hour they decided to try getting me up again and......I passed out. So I lay back down and passed the time chatting with the other students who came and went in the cot next to mine. Finally they got me up and walked me to the table where there was juice and snacks (not sure why they didn't try giving me some while I was still on the cot, maybe because we were in the library). I had a little meal and chatted with my friend who was there and after a bit they told me I could go to class so I got up and.....passed out. This time I was caught by a very cute boy, which would have been a total movie moment but he was dating a friend of mine so oh well. Back to the cot for me, luckily my friend who'd been at the snack table had the good sense to go get my lunch for me. They tried to send me to class again a while latter and I guess I collapsed in the hallway and someone brought me back but I don't remember that part. Don't ask me why my parents weren't called or maybe a hospital because I don't know. Any way I finally made it back to class during seventh period (six hours later) and walked in to class half way through an Algebra test. My teacher took one look at me and said I could make it up.
I was actually feeling pretty much better by the time I got on the bus to go home. The Jr. High students also rode our bus. Normally my brother (who was in seventh grade)and I each hung out with our own friends but he saw how awful I looked and asked what was wrong so I told him the whole story, with help from our next door neighbor (the one who got my lunch) filing in the parts where I was unconscious. My poor brother was very upset. The bus stop was about half a mile from our house and my brother insisted on walking with us and every few blocks he made me sit down and rest, it must have taken us twice as long as usual to get home. Once we were in the house he insisted I lay down on the couch and let him bring me snacks and juice. I'm sure I didn't need the attention by then but he was just being so sweet.
He was like that. Today would have been his 31st birthday. I'm sorry he's not here to celebrate but I'll always love him for the things he did in those first 18 years.

My real hair color is kind of a dark blonde. Now I just have mood hair. -Julia Roberts
Does your hair change color on its own?
Is it just me?
I think it might be just me.
It's weird right?
I shouldn't complain it had gotten much darker when I was pregnant (not sure if being pregnant was the catalyst or what) but now it's getting lighter again. A subtle change it's true but I hated the color it had turned.
'Coarse I'm thinking of going red any way so I guess it doesn't matter.

Experience is a comb which nature gives us when we are bald. ~Proverb
New teacher at Fiona's school: I love her hair cut. It's so cute!
Me: Thanks, I call it "all the hair she's grown so far."

Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.-Author Unknown
When I was around the same age as Fiona one of the other mothers at my daycare asked my Mom if she got up every morning and curled my hair. My Mom thought (quite reasonably) that that was just about the stupidest thing she'd ever been asked. Who the heck curls a two year olds hair every day?
However now that Fiona has enough hair to style (if you count pigtails as a style) I kinda see the ladies point. Does this look like this happened naturally?

Hair style is the final tip-off whether or not a woman really knows herself.-Hubert de Givenchy
Whoa!
I was trying to figure out how to do victory rolls (it's a 40's hairstyle) and I clicked on a picture to try to get a closer look at where the pins were placed and it took me to a white supremacy web site. That is waaaaaaaaaay not what I wanted. Now I've probably been flagged on some sort of watch list.
Uncool

It was a blonde. A blonde to make a bishop kick a hole in a stained-glass window.-Raymond Chandler
So I know I'm a crazy pet person. I have six, although I only really like one (I'm a cat person) but the day we got Gambit I met a lady who absolutely makes me seem normal. She said "Your hair is exactly the same color*. I took in samples from both of my Goldens but my hair dresser couldn't match it"
*No it's really not.

Smooth Away
I was sent a free sample of this product and they asked me to try it and write a review on my blog. I was so stoked. I have a forum in with to voice my opinion and I'm being asked to do so YAY!
I tried it out about a week and a half ago. It works pretty well but takes much longer than shaving. I tried it both on my legs and on my face (less sensitive than trying it out on my bikini area or armpits).
I was pretty pleased when I used it on my face it worked quickly and effectively and I wasn't all red afterwards like with a waxing product. Either it was a more effective method than waxing or the hair growth inhibitor they included works because the hair is barely starting to grow back more than a week later.
I was less impressed with it as a hair removal system for my legs. It took at least 20 mins and I never got the entire leg smooth. It did work pretty well for knees and ankles where I have to admit I'm prone to nicking myself. Here the hair seemed to grow back at a normal pace and I had to shave the next morning.
So my final answer is this product works but not that well. I'd say it's best use is for small areas or cleaning up a spot you missed on your legs after you're already dressed.
Here is a link to their web site if you want more info. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and you may find this is perfect for you.

At Least That's What I Think
One of the problems with the comb over is it doesn't always stay combed over. It's even less flattering when it's a greasy stringy clump of hair trialling down the back of your head on to one shoulder. My advise, just accept the bald spot. It's less unattractive than the various things you can try to hide it.

Suave Hair Spray
I ran out of the Bumble and Bumble hairspray I've been using for the pat year. It's expensive and I either have to go to a salon or order it off the Internet so I thought I'd try a different brand. I bought a bottle of Suave super hold about a month ago. Last week I noticed that I have a whole bunch of tiny short hairs under my bangs, today I noticed there are a bunch of short hairs (maybe an inch long) sticking up from my head. It appears the Suave hairspray is causing my hair to break off near the root. I haven't changed anything other than hairspray so if it isn't that I have a health issue. I'll have to see if I can find any sort of hair repair serum that will heal the damaged hairs that haven't broken off yet and of coarse I'll need another hairspray. I hardly use hair products so I didn't think I needed an expensive product but I'm now seeing cheap isn't the way to go either. I recommend staying away from this particular product.
If anyone has any suggestions for either a different spray to try or a hair repair product I'd love to hear them.
