It's really the cat's house - we just pay the mortgage.-Author Unknown

We're moving. We got the house we really liked.

Now maybe we'll both be able to sleep again. Dave wasn't sleeping while we were looking for a place but started doing better as we were going through the process of getting our docs together. I was sleeping fine while we were looking but I haven't slept almost at all in the last few nights waiting for an official yes.

I feel better all ready. Of coarse I also got to take my morning walk and got to the gym for first time this week so perhaps that is why my tension is receding.

Now I just need to work myself up to being excited. At the moment I just feel daunted that I have to pack up an entire house.

Do not free a camel of the burden of his hump; you may be freeing him from being a camel.-Gilbert K. Chesterton

I woke up in the middle of the night and there was something in our room. I was all "what the f**k is that" then Dave moved so I realised he's awake too and I said, "Is that a freaking giraffe?" he says "No, it's a camel."

Dude a freaking camel in our house. How the heck did it get there? How'd it even wind up in Fairfield, we don't even have a zoo? I was understandably confused and a little frightened. Was this some sort of daring burglary?

So Dave chased it down the hall in to the garage and I went to call......who do you call when there's a camel in your house? The Humane Society? The A.S.P.C.A.? I don't know freaking P.E.T.A.? Who ever would come and get this camel could have it as far as I was concerned, maybe a BBQ place. The whole time I was making calls and explaining the situation I was thinking "This is going to make an awesome blog post!"

I was very disappointed when I woke up and discovered that it was only a very vivid dream. It probably means something nutty too, like I secretly want to take up taxidermy.

I hadn't realized until I covered the police beat just how seedy crime is.-Jessica Savitch

Sunday we decided to take Fiona to the train museum. It seemed like a good idea at the time but we failed to realize that Fiona and I were still getting worse rather than better like we hoped add to that the fact that Fiona didn't take a nap and well the afternoon did not go well so we went home. We were all relieved when we saw the turn to our street. Unfortunately the next thing we saw was a police car blocking the street and an officer signaling that we needed to turn around and drive away.

Dude that's our street where do you think we're gonna go?

Luckily they were still in the process of blocking the circle that come out right at our house and we squeezed past pretending we didn't know what they were trying to do. As we turned from the circle we could see a SWAT tank with a freaking machine gun turret parked across from our house. There were more cop cars blocking the rest of the street and officers milling around trying to look important. We got Fiona out of the car and in to the house as quickly as possible. Then Dave did what any man would do...went outside to watch the show (I totally would have been out there with him if I'd had any energy to get off the couch). He quickly figured out that the activity was centered on the neighbors house half a block away. Now this neighbor is a bit of a character and sometimes tells stories that make you think he's either a little loopy or a compulsive liar. So I wouldn't be surprised if he did something to get arrested but I did have a hard time picturing him doing something that would require a SWAT team. Eventually Dave saw them bring the wife out with her hands up and after a bunch more posturing they got the guy out. He was complaining that this was ridiculous. We were a little worried that the SWAT team would shoot their dogs, which if you pay attention to the news seems to be standard operating procedure for SWAT teams. Luckily they did not do that in this case.

Monday the neighbor was back at home so we figured what ever it was didn't stop him from getting bail.

Dave looked it up on the police log. Do you want to know what the neighbor did that made it necessary to lock down our whole street, bring in a swat team, and bring his wife out with her hand up and a machine gun trained on her? Do ya?

He made a suicide threat. Now obviously I'm anti suicide (wait is that obvious to people who don't know me personally? Okay remember how I've mentioned that my brother died. Yeah guess how he died). Yes if someone is making threats they should be stopped but this was just encouraging the guy to try suicide by cop. The police serve an important function and I'm glad they're around when we need them (hey I never told you about the crazy people who came to the door) but it's bullshit like this that makes them look bad. Also the part about always shooting the dogs that's assholley.

I saw a human pyramid once. It was very unnecessary.-Mitch Hedberg

A few thoughts

Note to self: No matter how tasty it sounds coffee at bedtime=NOT A GOOD IDEA!

This morning I saw a squirrel and a bird having a fight. I think the squirrel would win.

I should get an I.M. account at home so when I can't sleep I can have incoherent conversations with other insomniacs.

When Fiona smiles she looks just like my brother.

A shrine to someone who was killed outside the gym I just joined. Oh joy!

Edit
Mental note watch out for wet floors at the gym. Hope P heals fast.

Every man is surrounded by a neighborhood of voluntary spies.-Jane Austen

Dear Neighbor Who Writes Anonymous Notes,

Thanks so much for your note about my yard. Since other than needing to be mowed the front isn't bad I'm assuming you're talking about the backyard.

Now to respond to your concerns.

1. Stop looking over my fence

2. Yep you're right I don't care about this neighborhood. What made you think I did?

3. If you have something to say to me, say it to my face. Yep I see the irony of responding in this forum but if I knew who you were you can bet I'd be saying this to you in person.

Bite me you interfering peeping tom

I Was in Such a Good Mood....Now Not So Much

What's this? A double post? Oh joy, did something interesting or exciting happen in the Daniverse?

Well yes and no. Technically getting your car broken in to is both interesting and exciting but not in a good way.

Things they took:

Dave's golf clubs
The travel DVD player (the car ride with Fiona tomorrow morning is going to suck)
Everything in the glove compartment (what they are going to do with expired insurance cards and the users manual to a '03 Saturn Ion I don't know)
Fiona's diaper bag (not valuable but there were some clothes I liked and she needed, she's at the age where she destroys almost everything she wears)
My cute little white jacket from Old Navy (okay in the scheme of things not important but hey I liked it)
Probably a bunch of other stuff we haven't realised was missing yet.

You'd think with some of the thing I post that we live in the ghetto. Actually we live in a nice middle class neighborhood. It's just that the criminals don't stay in their own neighborhoods. Sigh.

I just can't wait till we can move out of CA. I love CA, I really really do but we can have a much nicer life else ware.
